We’re excited to announce that we have partnered with Lewis and Clark Community College to offer college accredited courses through our training program, AgIQ University. Over 50 individual training classes are available through this program, including classes on safety, crop sales, marketing, human resources, finance, and business management. This partnership is the first of its kind for FamilyFarms Group.
New Agricultural Management Certificate
Lewis and Clark Community College (L&C) is a 2-year college in Godfrey, Illinois, located just minutes from the FamilyFarms Group office in Brighton. L&C offers a variety of degrees and certificates and will now feature an Agricultural Management Certificate—offered through AgIQ University. Classes for this new certificate will begin enrolling this summer, with the first sessions starting in the fall 2018 semester. Students will be awarded the certificate after completing 12 credit hours of required courses.
This is the first agriculture-focused certificate at L&C. The courses featured in this program include
- Finance and planning for agriculture
- Marketing for agriculture
- Management for agriculture
- Human resource management for agriculture
Articulation agreements have been reached with the University of Illinois, University of Illinois–Springfield, Eastern Illinois University, Western Illinois University, Southern Illinois University–Carbondale, and Illinois State. Talks with more colleges are underway.
“We view this as a great partnership between Lewis and Clark and FamilyFarms Group and will be beneficial for the college and the members of FamilyFarms Group,” said Kent Scheffel, vice president of enrollment services. “The certificate will give the opportunity to FamilyFarms members to get agricultural education credentials with the certificate and will allow college students to apply those courses towards an ag degree. This certificate will also be a great opportunity for those outside of FamilyFarms to earn an agricultural certificate as well.”
“We are excited to have this offering for our members,” Jeff Haferkamp, FamilyFarms Group senior vice president of education, said. “This program gives our members and their families the opportunity to gain not only valuable training but also college credits for the courses.”
Additional information will be presented at the 2018 Summer Conference. If you would like to learn more about the new Agricultural Management Certificate or other training offerings, contact Valerie Bates at (618) 372-4008.
