We all know Supermodels…What About SuperFarms?!?
A popular marketing blog by Seth Godin made an interesting point the other day – What about supermodels? This is probably something we don’t give a lot of thought to in the agriculture industry, but maybe we should.
Models are just regular people who happen to be more attractive than most who do runway shows and the on-and-off photo shoots. This really isn’t glamorous or financially sustainable – especially considering that you rarely see a model over 30, much less 40.
Supermodels are another type of animal. I think we can all agree that they aren’t necessarily prettier than all of the other “models” out there, but they are infinitely more famous. The advertisers gain credibility just by using a known face. In turn, the models make more money and become even more famous. A textbook win-win situation.
So, what does this have to do with agriculture you ask? Everything!
Think about it – do you want to be a farm? Or a SuperFarm? Let the moaning begin…
So you say, but “We have a ‘ReallyGoodFarm’” or “I am the best operator in my area.” Have you heard about the ReallyGoodModels or BestModelinGrandIslandNebraska? Didn’t think so.
It is a leap from model to supermodel just as it is a leap from farm to SuperFarm. It is also an intentional leap – one you have to decide upon and then make it happen yourself.
So what is a SuperFarm? For the purpose of this entry, it is within the same idea as a supermodel – a famous farm that buyers or customers seek out to work with. To be a SuperFarm, you have to be well known, respected, and willing to put your face out there.
Now, to be clear, FamilyFarms Group can help you to become the best darn “farm” out there or to become a “SuperFarm.” That decision is up you and the goals your family has set for your farm. It is a decision every operator has to make for themselves.
